Silversmithing Courses – All Levels
£75.00
Sorry! Rob is now retired and no longer offering these classes, but thank you for your interest or attendance – they were great fun!
Enjoy learning how to make your own silver jewellery in this fun and satisfying hands-on workshop with Rob Morris in his purpose-built workshop overlooking Whitstable and the sea.
In the morning, if you’re a beginner, Rob will take you through the joys and pitfalls of working with silver. He’ll explain the properties of different metals, demonstrate a selection of techniques such as forging, texturing, soldering and wax carving. You’ll then experiment with copper to get a feel for the basic techniques involved in manipulating metal. If you’re staying for a whole day, you may move on to silver if you wish.
Courses for makers with some experience will be tailored according to your previous knowledge.
Thank you to everyone who joined Rob for his workshops – he has now retired and is no longer offering these courses.
He thoroughly enjoyed working with you all and was delighted to start you on your jewellery-making journey or extend your skills!
He is gradually selling off his equipment, so if there are any tools which might be of interest, drop him a WhatsApp to find what’s available on 07980 543212
Join Rob in his purpose-built workshop overlooking Whitstable and the sea for a fun day where you can either start your jewellery-making from scrate ch or build on previous skills. The day is informal and filled with laughter, but you should leave at the end of the day with a good understanding of the many techniques and possibilities for creating beautiful pieces, and even a piece you’ve made yourself!
Courses tend to run from 10 until 4, you’ll need to wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and please bring a packed lunch – we’ll provide tea, coffee and biscuits.
All prices are per attendee and exclude the metal we supply for you to use – this will be costed by weighing your finished piece(s) at the end of your session and charged based on that day’s precious metal price (this seems fairest, as students tend to make pieces of very different weights!).
From experience, the ideal number of students is 3-4. It keeps the cost down for students and allows Rob plenty of scope to oversee and guide you in your endeavours! We are happy to run courses for two, but this puts the cost up for you, obviously! If you can put together a group of 3 people or more, it is much more viable to schedule a course easily!
Please WhatsApp Rob on 07980 543212 for a speedy reply to discuss suitable dates – courses are run from approximately April to November, and longer bespoke courses can be arranged by request.
