Kiss
Rob Morris was keen to design something based around ‘love’ other than hearts, which already feature in three of his ranges. Looking for inspiration for Valentine’s Day, he was amazed to find few interesting designs for kisses. Very dull, simple crosses were the order of the day… so Rob decided to create something with a bit more originality. He asked his partner to draw a kiss… quickly, without thinking too hard… and the lines she drew were more swooping, flowing and generous than the meagre x’s of most designs. He liked the life in the basic drawing and designed around it, creating a sinuous kiss with softened angles and elegant curves.
To really make the designs sing out, Rob has oxidised the low spots. This is done by painting oxidising fluid, which artificially ages the silver’s surface. The fluid most commonly employed used to be liver of sulphur, but the smell in the workshop made Rob fearful customers might think he’d ‘stepped on a duck’, so he switched to a Swedish product, Platinol, and thankfully the finish is superior and the colour is richer. Rob then gently polishes the surface to a high shine.
As with many of his designs, there are three sizes of Kiss… from the subtle to the bold. And only the most daring can wear the large Kiss earrings, which look stunning if you have the strong style and features they demand. Most people suit the medium and small earrings… but all sizes are light and comfortable. The little ones have proved so popular Rob has also made them in gold, and they really zing out in that most precious of metals!
This is one of Rob’s favourite designs which has proved extremely popular as a token of love all year round, not just for Valentine’s.
